Through this two-year course, students will be trained to become capable, analytical and reflective practitioners with the ability to work in any social work service or setting. As the MA Social Work is an approved course, this means that once students successfully complete this qualification they’ll meet the professional standards set by Social Work England and can apply to be registered with them as a social worker.

Year one of the course focuses on developing students’ understanding of social work practice and skills. In year two, the focus is on professional development and preparing students for their role as a social worker. Some of the topics that will be explored include how to communicate with service users and carers, theories to inform practice and the factors that influence the journey from pre-birth right through to end of life.
